In the small, gloomy town of Spiritbourne, Charlie Holt hides a secret. The 19-year-old son of the town's alcoholic pastor has carried a torch for his best friend since seventh grade. As summer ends and his friend prepares to leave for university, Charlie struggles with revealing two truths: he wasn't accepted to their dream school, and his friendship hides deeper feelings that could change everything.

Hot summer nights were always Charlie's favorite time to leave his home. The town of Spiritbourne always looked beautiful in the moonlight, and the nearby lake just looked absolutely mystical. Charlie stood at the water's edge, skipping rocks across the water as he waited for his best friend to arrive. His best friend, oh his best friend. It would be an understatement to say he didn't love him. They had been best friends since the seventh grade, and now they were both preparing for university. Well...somewhat.

Charlie hadn't told them yet, but he hadn't been accepted to the university they both had applied to. He felt bad, but not because he was upset about not getting in. No, he was upset that he'd have to leave them. But this was their dream school, and he wouldn't take that chance from them. He heard a twig snap and he turned around quickly.

"Took you long enough! You want a drink?" he gave a forced smile and offered a bottle of beer. He knew tonight would be the night he'd tell them they wouldn't be going to Uni together, but maybe they could have a bit of fun first.
