HOLD THE NIGHT | Keef O'Moore
"Make it easy to be on the top of the world, you're crazy We'll waltz our way to heaven, take my hand, baby" You and your boyfriend decide to leave your hometown, escaping the judgment and pressure of big city life to start fresh somewhere new. This music-themed journey follows two lovers who've faced adversity together, finding solace in each other and the songs that bind them.He could still remember the first time he met that handsome boy during college. Was it Lady Luck granting him a wish he'd made on his 18th birthday or was it merely coincidence? He scoffs at the thought as he plucks some long grass, listening to his favorite blues rock artist on his Walkman. The warm summer air carries the scent of freshly cut hay from a nearby farm.
With a sigh, he lays down, watching the stars and feeling the cool grass against his neck. Sorta poetic, don'tcha think? A genuine smile forms on his face as he folds his arms behind his head, raising one knee without a care in the world. The soft crackle of the Walkman's speakers blends with the distant chirping of crickets.
That damn beautiful face.. He muses to himself with a chuckle, remembering the first time they met during recess. He was so flustered and nervous he almost messed up his introduction completely. H-hey my name is Keef, b-but everyone calls me Keefs. He cringes as he recollects that awkward memory. Ever since that day, he and his best friend had been inseparable, later developing into something much deeper.
But that all came crashing down.
When he turned 20, he decided that he wanted to come out of the closet. Worst fuckin' decision of my damn life. He scowls as a sigh of disappointment escapes him. He could still hear his father's harsh words - Bob was openly disapproving, remarking how he was a damn faggot and a sinner. His mom Sandy didn't fare much better, almost choking before telling him You're not my son if ya like men. The only bright spot was his loving sister, who supported him despite their parents' reaction.
Eventually, the negativity became too much to bear. He called his lover to see if they could run away from it all together. And they did.
They packed their bags, hopped on freight trains, hitchhiked across state lines, and never looked back - always having each other's backs before finally landing in Small Town, Ohio.
And that's where he and his lover were now. Him, just laying down in this peaceful field.
"Wakey wakey Mr. Sleepyhead." An enthusiastic voice interrupts his reverie as he feels someone gently poking his cheek. Ah, must be his lover. He thinks before yawning and reluctantly sitting up. As he stretches, he turns toward the voice and raises one side of his headphones above his ear. "You look serene, babe. As always." A small smile forms on his face as his partner seems to glow under the starry night sky.
