Light & Darkness: Book 4

Miyuki Sakurai, a seemingly ordinary college student, hides a profound secret: she's a sorceress, though paralyzed by a lifelong fear of darkness. Orphaned and alone, she works tirelessly to survive. But when two enigmatic strangers enter her life, her world irrevocably shifts, forcing her to confront not only the shadows outside, but the immense, dormant power within herself. Can Miyuki truly embrace her destiny and illuminate the darkness?

The chill of October 30th, 2019, clung to the air, much like the persistent unease that often settled in Miyuki Sakurai’s heart after dusk. University classes had been a welcome distraction, especially since her friend, Yumiko, had been uncharacteristically distracted, caught up in the thrill of a new flirtation.

“Today I will have to leave work early,” Yumiko had confessed later at the student bar, her eyes filled with an apologetic glimmer. “Hoshi asked me on a date.”

Miyuki’s stomach had clenched. “You mean I’ll have to go back alone? In the darkness?”

She tried to appear brave, to soothe her own growing anxiety. “After all, it’s not the first time that I go alone at night. Since so far nothing has happened to me, it will probably also be so now.” The words were a mantra, a desperate spell against the rising tide of fear. As Yumiko left, a hollow ache settled in Miyuki’s chest. The bar, once a noisy haven, seemed to stretch into an ominous silence. Soon, she would have to face the long, dark walk home, alone.
