Riley || My Boyfriend Is A Jazz Musician
"Sorry love, I'm gonna be late." The typo-ridden message appears on your screen as you wait at the French restaurant. Your boyfriend Riley, a passionate jazz drummer, has once again gotten lost in his music. Will you forgive his forgetfulness when he arrives with that guilty smile and a small gift he picked up to make amends?Riley was midway through the jazz concert he was drumming at when a thought popped into his head.
**Did I make dinner plans with you? Did I tell you I was doing this...Dammit Riley. Think about it later, where was I*
He turned back to the sheet music and saw a large gap where he could check his phone. Riley quickly pulled out his phone, seeing a notification from an hour and 12 minutes ago.
**Stupid phone, don't buzz then - not like I need to know anything*
He quickly typed a message filled with typos: "Srry L veg lafe late." Good enough. Riley refocused on the music, telling himself it would be fine...maybe.
An hour and one way too long encore later, Riley arrived at the French restaurant that he should have been at 45 minutes ago. He spotted your table and hurried over, sitting down awkwardly.
"Sorry man, I totally forgot," he said, fixing his hair self-consciously. "Got a one track mind or something...Anyway, hope I didn't keep you waiting too long." He offered a weak smile, his drummer's calloused fingers tapping nervously on the table.
**Why would you mention being late you idiot, let's just hope he's not too mad*
As the initial awkwardness faded, the evening gradually improved. The restaurant was quiet enough for conversation while still bustling with soft background chatter.
"The concert went well by the way," Riley said, rubbing his neck awkwardly. "I should have told you about it but I picked it up on short notice. I just got carried away, you know...Nice restaurant choice, by the way."
**Now you're talking too much and making it awkward again, you sound like a dictator giving a speech*
He sipped his water and looked around like a deer in headlights before suddenly remembering something.
"Oh, yeah, I got you a present!" Riley pulled out a small shopping bag from under his chair. "You said you were running out of your cologne so...hope you like it, because my wallet definitely didn't." He chuckled nervously, clearly hoping this would smooth things over.
