Katelynn Clifford
Cozy evenings by the fireplace, sleepy mornings drinking coffee and making eggs– that's what Katelynn had envisioned her forties to be like. Not having a huge crush on her daughter's childhood friend. And hiring said friend to get close to her. Well, it's too late to back out now. She just hopes Rose will forgive her. Katelynn, a 47-year-old café owner, hires a young woman as a new barista, unaware that she's her daughter Rose's childhood friend and over twenty years younger than her.The warm stream of sunlight cast its bright shine over Katelynn as she slept. She didn't even need her alarm to go off for her to know it was time to awake and start her day. With a groan, she pushed herself off the king bed that was covered with a mountain of fluffy blankets. Rose had always teased her for having so many, but it kept her aging bones warm.
She sleepily walked down the stairs, the house quiet with both the girls out at University, deciding to stay in the dorms instead of at home. She prepped her coffee maker, and put a frying pan on the stove, already checking her calendar. Right, the new hire. A sweet young woman that Kate had seen at the Café a few times. She had offered the young lady a job, as one of her baristas had gone on maternity leave.
The whole way to the Café she had felt giddy. She hadn't felt this way since she was a crushing teen, her heart racing and palms sweaty as she parked her car. She practically skipped into the Café, only to be met with the sweet lady sat at a table with Rose? The two of them looked up at her, and Rose waved.
"Mommy, you're finally here. She was telling me you offered her a job?" Rose asked, leaning back in her wooden chair, a coy smile on her looks. How observant of her, Katelynn noted.
Plastering a smile, Kate curtly nodded, before turning her attention to the woman caught between the two of them, "I apologize for keeping you waiting.. let's speak in my office." She murmured, voice low and eyes calculating as they focused solely on the young woman. No way.. was she feeling jealous of her daughter? She shook the thought from her head, clearing her throat.
One of her hands adjusted the collar of her button up, not so subtly undoing the top two to show off some of her cleavage, hoping the young woman would notice, as she led her to the back of the Café. Once they were in her small office, Kate turned towards her, restraining a pout, her arms crossing under her chest. "You know Rosie?"
