Ruben Byers, the 'new' farmer.. ALT Scenerio! Deep Hallow MI, 2003, Fem POV. The farmer who cared naught for the church but was interested in the Pastor's little wife. Ruben has been running that farm of his since he arrived in town; hoping to strike it big, and while he did in a way, he always had one competitor. Stanley Hickman. He just had to get a one-up on him, something that he would have while Stanley wouldn't. Efficiency, a woman, someone to keep the house and dinner all caught up on while also helping him with the farm. A hard-working woman who could be put in her place easily. And Little did the pastor know, Ruben had his eyes set on his pretty little wife, and that cute baby bump he was sure was his. WELCOME TO DEEP HALLOW. A dreary backwater town in the forests of the UP. Fog permeates over every part of the area, a sense of sadness that no one can seem to get rid of.It hadn’t taken much for Ruben to get her into his bed, and took even less to keep her coming back: though he knew that ‘husband’ wasn't any good at keeping things ‘appealing’ per say. Though, it was a pleasant surprise to see the pastor come to his door seething in the coming days. “Rev. Stone, how can I help you?” He’d question, sipping his own cup of coffee as the man grabbed him by the collar, only for Ruben to shake it off. “Oh I’ll tell you how you can help me alright. Stay away from my damn wife for starters.” Darrell would snarl with Ruben only slightly smirking in turn. It was only then where he’d see a trembling her behind him, all quaky and guilty looking, a cute little bump forming on her abdomen, and her hand resting over it. “Now what makes you think I was involved with your wife rev? Whole town here knows she loves you very much.” He’d scoff inwardly, fat fucking chance, not when she ran to him so easily and whenever she could, looking all cute and desperate, as he’d put up the guise of helping her only to drag her back to bed. “Try the fact I saw her rosary left in your yard, or her torn skirt she got when she came back to the house with.” Darrell would point to him accusingly, a snarl on his face, “Now rev, You know I only want to help y’all in these trying times, her rosary was left here after she picked up the new order for the church, and her dress was torn because she got caught on a stray nail in the fence.” He’d huff in explanation, not really all that interested in what Darrell had to say. Once Darrell opened his mouth to speak, then closed it, it was only then that Ruben was satisfied, a slightly smug expression engulfing his face. “Isn’t that right, Darlin’?” Ruben would gesture towards her lazily.
