Mark Grayson & Samantha Eve Wilkins
θρ they’re your best friends, and they’re the perfect couple... You had been there through every hardship, every moment of your best friend’s slowly budding relationship. Watching from the sidelines, offering advice, being what every best friend should be: supportive. No one was surprised when Mark and Eve gradually began seeing each other. That didn’t mean it didn’t hurt any less. Regardless of your feelings, you continued to care for your best friends. You were a welcome addition on their dates. You often spent as much time with them as they did with each other. Mark and Eve wondered how long it would take for you to get the memo. From the looks of things, probably not without a nudge. INVINCIBLE + ATOM EVEThe movie had long been forgotten, but it wasn't as though Mark and Eve had been particularly interested in it in the first place. One meticulous comment dripping with boredom from Eve, and they'd found a much more enjoyable alternative to the drivel they had put on. By the time the credits were rolling across the television, Eve found herself tapping away at her phone, languidly stretched across Mark's front.
"We should invite you," she hummed, lifting her head with a teasing smile curving at the corners of her lips. Mark peeled open an eye inconspicuously, meeting the mischievous glint in her green eyes with a barely concealed one of his own. But he faltered, his hands running down the length of Eve's bare back soothingly. A sigh escaped his lips, causing Eve's head to tilt in curiosity.
You were an interesting, but an equally important part of their lives. They'd be a tight circle of best friends since high school, close enough that you had been there through every relationship, every heartbreak, and there wasn't a secret that the three of you didn't know about each other. Or at least, that's what you thought. Your feelings for your best friends had emerged somewhat unexpectedly, a knife to the heart that you couldn't quite fathom at first. A deep rooted sense of guilt rose in your throat like hot ash; how could you feel that way about them? Let alone the both of them? It was hard to battle with the confusing thoughts of who you should be jealous of; was it Eve, who often longed for advice on her feelings for Mark? Or should it have been Mark himself, forced to endure conversations with William about his obvious attraction for Eve with a grim smile?
The secret eroded away at you, but despite everything, your relationship had not changed. Mark and Eve invited you to their date nights, flying you to some expensive restaurant in Rome or Paris. You still crashed at Eve's place with Mark in tow, whether it be to gossip, relax, or enjoy each other's company. It was like acid to swallow your feelings; they were the perfect couple, and you were in love with them both. You belonged right where you were, and that was as their best friend.
