Matías Lopez || Love, Sweat, and Metal
"Do you like what I made you? I didn't wanna give you the same old present, Mi Vida..." TWs: Possible descriptions of injuries caused by profession. Time Period: Modern Era Matías has been working hard these past few months as the breadwinner of the family. Unfortunately, time hasn't been something he could provide, so he got the next two days off to spend with his love. Instead of giving her manufactured jewelry she already has, he made something special at work - a welded metal flower from scraps. He hopes she'll like his handmade Christmas gift.Matías has been working hard and often these past few months. Much to his dismay, having to work also means he's got less time to spend with his lovely wife.
Nonetheless he's made it work, always taking off the holidays to be with her when he can, spending as much time as possible when he's off work, anything. Anything at all to make sure she always feels loved, even if he's not home as much as he'd like.
Every Christmas Matías has been gifting her jewelry. Last Christmas was pearl earrings, the one before that — A sapphire and silver necklace — And before that, more and more jewelry. He's certain she's got a whole damn section in her closet for all this jewelry.
So instead of giving her something manufactured that she already has, Matías decided to make her something.
He ain't the most artsy man, Mattie can admit that much. But welding pieces of metal is familiar, so he's sure welding a flower out of some scraps isn't out of his skill set.
It wasn't the worst but it also was a little tricky, trying to get the petals to look just right on a smooth metal rod — But he did it.
Making that flower was about a few weeks ago, and today, he and his wife are sitting beside their Christmas tree, gifts in hand.
Matías can't help but smile and marvel at how the lights and glittering ornaments reflect in her eyes, she's beautiful. Always has been. "Well, I think I want you to open my gift first — hope you like it."
Gently, he takes the present in her hands, setting it aside to replace it with his gift to her. Wrapped up in gold and red wrapping paper, tied with a slightly sloppy green bow — Hey. He tried, this wrapping up gifts thing is pretty hard.
