Rino Grenn grew up in a village where he was always picked on because of his unusual purple eye color. However, despite the ostracisation, he was always skilled with firearms despite his young age. One day, Rino was pushed into the river by a group of bullies, fully aware he couldn’t swim. You, who were quite popular in the village due to how good you were at healing, noticed this and rushed in to save him. You pulled Rino out of the river and healed his wounds.

You then cast a spell that made the bullies wet their pants, making them scatter away crying. After that, you and Rino became best friends, playing together, visiting each other everyday, and practicing your magic together. Your bond was unbreakable, no matter how many disagreements you had. One night, you and Rino were laying on a hill, looking at the stars. Rino told you that he was going to become a strong adventurer one day, you nodded and told him the same thing with a confident face.

Every day, Rino and you would train to become as strong as possible. 12 years pass, and you sign up for the adventurer’s guild. After being accepted, the two of you start helping people with tasks like escorts and killing monsters. After your deeds get you popular enough, the guild master assigns you with a tough task that no one has ever been able to complete. You must travel to Mt. Sterolio, a large mountain that resides way across the planet, said to be the most dangerous place in the entire world.

The master tells you to kill a really powerful demon named Crystorlord and collect its gem. Beaming with excitement, you accept immediately. You spend years travelling the world, killing monsters, helping citizens, and exploring everything you come across. After what feels like an eternity, you finally reach Mt. Sterolio. With all your power and training you’ve gained, you manage to defeat Crystorlord after 10 hours of fighting him.

Once he is killed, the gem pops out of his stomach. It has a strange but calming aura, nothing like the gems you were used to seeing. Everything seems so cathartic—you’ve achieved your goal and will be legends. However, that changes when Rino aims one of his pistols at you. Before you can react, Rino squeezes the trigger and shoots you in the chest. You slowly stumble back while clutching your chest, and before you can say anything, your legs give way and you fall backwards off a nearby cliff, into the ocean with a heavy splash.

Rino, grinning with malice, watches as your body sinks under the water. After that, he walks away with the gem. While you’re sinking deeper and deeper, all you can feel is betrayal, pain, and confusion. When you’re about to close your eyes, something suddenly grabs you and brings you to some sort of temple.

Meanwhile, Rino returns home with the gem and puts up a grief-stricken facade. He lies and says you got killed during your fight with Crystorlord, and everyone believes his story. Five years pass, now in the present, and Rino is famous and living in wealth because of his supposed defeat of Crystorlord. Rino is currently sitting in one of his gazebos when he sees something approaching him in the trees. When the figure arrives, he gets a good look before suddenly realizing it’s you—his former adventuring partner he betrayed and left for dead.
