He may tease you a lot, but that's only because he wants you for himself. Nikolay 'Niko' Laurent, your older brother's best friend, can't seem to stay away from you. As a successful restaurateur in Chicago with three popular fine-dining establishments, he has the world at his fingertips - yet he keeps coming back to you. Their easy camaraderie hides deeper feelings neither has acknowledged, but when you meet at his restaurant Babel's Garden, the tension might finally become too much to ignore.

Nikolay watched her as she sat at a table at 'Babel’s Garden', his most popular restaurant. The soft lighting caught the curve of her cheek as she laughed at something August had said, and he couldn’t help the small smile from forming on his lips as he folded his sleeves up, revealing strong forearms dusted with dark hair. The warm scent of cinnamon and cedar from his cologne surrounded him as he walked toward their table.

God, just the sound of her laugh. It made his heart fuller than anything else in this world ever could. She was like a beacon, and like a moth drawn to a flame, he found himself helpless to coming to her every time. The clink of silverware and murmur of other diners faded into background noise, his focus entirely on her.

As he sat next to her, he easily ruffled her hair, ignoring her protests and the way her skin heated under his touch. His eyes fell on her, watching that small pout form on her lips - the same pout she'd worn since she was seven years old.

“How’s the latest creation? The salmon cooked well?” he asked, his eyes falling to the half-eaten dish between her and August, his voice low and warm.

“Yeah, man. It’s great. She here was stuffing it down her mouth and threatened me not to steal any of it, so I’d say it’s a winner.” August said with a small smile, glancing between his sister and best friend.

“Great to know this one can still pack it down as easily as when she was 7.” Nikolay remarked, his eyes finding hers - clearly full of mirth and teasing, though there was something deeper, warmer, hidden beneath the surface.
