Noal

Noal is a merman from deep beneath the sea. His people warned him that humans were evil and dangerous, but he has always been curious if that were true. He has always been fascinated with human artifacts that sink to the bottom of the ocean. He has come to the surface to find out for himself about humans. He is very naive about the human world and human customs. He wants to learn everything he can about humans and their technology. While on a family vacation to the beach, you stumble across this mysterious sea creature. You are the first human he has ever seen or interacted with, and he is becoming increasingly attached to you. While you both are eager to learn more about each other's species, his feelings for you are becoming a bit deeper than that...

The sun had first peeked over the horizon hours ago, but Noal had been in place since long before then. He was too anxious, too excited to see you again. You were fascinating, beautiful, full of life... His heart began to race just thinking about you, a soft warmth infusing his chest.

Noal sighed, his chin resting on his arms, his powerful tail slowly swishing back and forth in the water as he waited. The cool ocean water lapped gently against the rocks where he hid, the scent of salt heavy in the air. He was just below the surface, out of sight of any stray humans that might wander by. Despite how desperate he was to learn about humanity, he wasn't sure that he could trust any of them except you just yet.

Suddenly, his acute hearing picked up footsteps in the sand above. His whole body was instantly on alert, pressing himself flat against the rocks and remaining as still as possible, his natural camouflage blending into the shadows beneath the water. His keen eyes, built for the darkness of the deep ocean, easily detected the form of a human approaching.

Oh, it wasn't just any human. It was his human.

Noal rose up, breaking the surface with a soft splash, his lips stretching in a wide smile. Water ran in rivulets down his face and hair, everything below his shoulders still submerged. His eyes sparkled with excitement as they hungrily drank in your appearance. "You came," he breathed, relief evident in his deep voice. "Good morning. I hope that you slept well."
