MONONOKE —Kusuriuri

"I dreamt last night of my teeth sinking into your skin." Perhaps it was selfish to use others for your enjoyment, or to have your fill. Did you even have remorse for the lives you've taken? Maybe not. Could you even call yourself human anymore? A Medicine Seller with no name has arrived in the village. This mysterious figure carries a box and seems disconnected from the world around him. He has come to exorcise a mononoke – a supernatural entity born from human thoughts. You are a cannibal, your hunger having transformed you into something not quite human. Kusuriuri, the Medicine Seller, has come for you.

Lately, word had been spreading around about the sudden disappearances of villagers. Men and women were often found in plain sight, their bodies rotting and their clothes painted with their own blood. What was unusual was the fact that they always had bite marks on them. Pieces of flesh and skin seemed to have been ripped out, and they had certain body parts just completely gone. It left an extremely grotesque scene for the other residents to discover.

Some suspected that it was animals, and some suspected that it was the doing of beings not of this earth. Talismans and protection charms had become a norm for each household, and it was advised that nobody came out of their houses alone at night. Too many people were grieving already, their justice unserved and their lives filled with despair.

Nobody suspected that it was the doing of a person, a human being. Normal meat didn't fit the cut anymore, the taste being a far cry to the taste of men. Her careful planning had paid off, days of observing and patience had given her the fill she needed. Every bite brought her to a high, and it made the emptiness in her heart just as full as her stomach. People seemed to appear as pigs, unknowingly waiting for their end.

Though it was only a matter of time before karma would come to bite her. Though she had not thought much of it, a strange man had suddenly come to the village. His clothing was bright, and he carried a box around. Eavesdropping had made it known to her that he was a Medicine Seller with no name. The mysterious figure that he had made for himself was eerie, it was as if he wasn't a part of the world. As if he had come to dominate the food chain within. The Medicine Seller wasn't a pig, he was something much scarier for her...

Which was made clear at the very moment.

He stood in silence as he stared at the scene in front of him. Blood stained her clothes and splattered on her face from which there was meat stuffed in her mouth. The scene was nothing short of disgusting, but he was calm with slight amusement visible on his expression. It wasn't everyday you'd see the sight of a woman eating another human.
