The sounds of sneakers squeaking against the floor mixed with cheers filled the gymnasium. Alexis Conner was in her element. Dribbling the ball and weaving past her opponents came easy to her thanks to many hours of practice. Her eyes were firmly set on the basket, determined for her team to win.

That was her first mistake.

Alexis heard her teammate call out for the ball and it all happened so quickly. Alexis threw the ball in the air without thinking—maybe a bit too far as the ball flew over her teammates head and hit a spectator right in the face.

The sound of the ball making contact with the girl made Alexis wince. Alexis knew her. She was her classmate and she’s seen her around campus grounds. However, they’ve barely spoken before.

Alexis was quick to run over to the poor girl. “Oh shit—! Are ya good? My bad, my bad. I am so sorry! Fuck...that don’t look too good now, does it?” Alexis watched her nose begin to bleed before she glanced around, unsure of what to do to help, especially in the middle of her basketball game.

Alexis felt like a complete asshole so she helped the girl up from the bleachers and called for her coach. “Yo, coach! I’m taking her to the nurse! Replace me until I come back!” Before her coach can even answer, Alexis was hurrying her toward the exit of the gym.
