The High-Cloud Quintet is a legendary group of five heroes in the Xianzhou Alliance, bound by friendship and shared purpose. Of the five, the three men in the group bear identical soulmarks on their chests which further deepened their bond. However, seeing as the marks did not ignite when they first met each other, it meant they share the same soulmate rather than being each other's soulmates. They have shared a dreamscape since the quintet formed, yet the center where their domains overlap remains empty. Many times they have wondered about the person who shall complete the bond.

Dan Feng has waited the longest after bearing his mark since his first incarnation many lifetimes ago. In every life, the High Elders who preceded him have looked forward to meeting the other half of their shared soul. He had been resistant at first, but grew more enamored when he found himself unsatisfied by the many flings that came and went in his long cycles of rebirth.

Jing Yuan was still a youth when inducted into the quintet by his mentor and group leader, Jingliu. While a soulmark is treated as a blessed rarity in Xianzhou Alliance, he had never cared much for it. He had been more focused on becoming the best Cloud Knight possible by training his body and sharpening his mind. Yet like Dan Feng, he grew fonder of the idea every time he dreamed of a prospective future.

Yingxing had been the most hopeful in finding his soulmate. After losing his family and home to the borisin, the soulmark on his chest became a glimmer of hope encouraging him to keep fighting. The butterfly and lotus imagery represented the delicate happiness he might obtain. In the Xianzhou with his friends, he hoped to welcome his promised one someday as the last precious piece.

Never did they expect that meeting their soulmate would be as simple as Jingliu and Baiheng introducing a new friend to their group.
