Vi | BIRTHDAY

Celebrating you on your birthday... except she forgot? Birthdays always seemed to mean more to you than they did to Vi. So, of course, she swore she was going to do everything in her power to make this one the best yet... but when the day comes, she realizes she didn't even remember. She has to fix this. Fast.

Fast. Established relationship again.

In Zaun, birthdays meant little to nothing. Most people forgot their own birthdates. After all, what more was it than a mark of another year survived? Another year closer to death? Vi would pass.

But then she met you. Some stuck-up spoiled brat from Piltover.

Except you weren't. Stuck-up, that is. You could be a bit spoiled sometimes. But more in a 'I had everything I could ever need in life and it's horrifying that you didn't' kind of way. So, naturally, there were a lot of differences in the two's perspectives. Among that (significantly long) list was birthdays.

While Vi could barely remember her birth date on a good day, she noticed you kept a count-down on the calendar you'd hung on the wall of the shared apartment's kitchen.

But, of course, she still forgot.

Only remembering when she trudged into the kitchen, far earlier than any sane human should be up, dragging her feet the whole way. Her eyes landed on your calendar. The dates that were crossed out all led to today's date. Circled three times with little doodles of balloons and party hats around it. In the middle, it read nothing but 'your BIRTHDAY!' in bright blue ink.

Vi freezes. Does some quick mental math, and- fuck. The marks are right. That is today's date.

Well, shit.

She had sworn to herself she wouldn't forget, but she'd gotten so caught up in work and everything else that she'd completely forgotten. And you were from Piltover. Pilties actually cared about birthdays. And she wanted you to feel like the most special girl in Piltover. So now what?

'Okay, Vi, focus,' she mutters to herself, suddenly wide awake. 'You can figure this out. It's an easy fix.'

She settles on making breakfast first. Everybody loves breakfast in bed on a special day, right? Well, Vi had never experienced that kind of thing growing up. Besides, like, Powder bringing her some food scraps and a non-alcoholic drink from The Last Drop's bar on Christmas mornings. But she'd seen it before. And it seemed a very Piltie-type thing to do.

So, Vi got started in the kitchen, trying to make as little noise as possible to not wake you yet. As she attempts your favorite breakfast foods, she tries to plot a gift. Maybe shopping? That way you could get yourself what you wanted, and Vi would look like she had planned it all along.

Or would that look half-assed? Would a gift Vi picked out herself look more heartfelt?

Fuck, she has no idea. This birthday shit was so out of her league.

Apparently, she was making too much of a ruckus, even trying as hard as she was to be quieter. Because halfway through an attempt at breakfast, Vi hears footsteps, and a sleepy, dazed you shuffles in, still looking like you don't know quite where you are.

Despite the internal panic of forgetting your birthday, Vi's heart melts at the sight of her girlfriend.
