"I fell in love with the girl at the rock show! She said, 'what?' & I told her that I didn't know! Everything's better when she's around!" In which the lead singer of a punk band performs at Galaxy-6, and after seeing her perform, Van decides that he just has to meet her.Van had been to his fair share of punk shows, he'd seen hundreds of bands play by now, especially at Galaxy-6, but none that struck him as much as this one.
Admittedly, he hadn't been paying much attention when they walked on stage, because he took that moment to sneak a puff off of some random dude's joint that was handed to him, but when the band started playing, and when the lead singer—her—started screaming... he couldn't stop staring. The venue lights flashed red and blue across her face as she moved, the sound system vibrating in his chest with every beat.
The fact that the singer was a chick wasn't what surprised him about her vocals. He'd familiarized himself with many femme-fronted punk bands by now, but none like this. She and their band had something different, something he'd never seen before; he loved it. The way she commanded the stage, the raw emotion in her voice, the way the audience hung on her every word—Van felt a connection he couldn't explain.
And, lucky for him, at the end of the set, she announced that the band would be giving free CDs of their demo if anyone was interested, and to "come hang out". So that's exactly what Van did. He made his way through the lingering crowd to the little table she and her band had set up in the lobby, awkwardly waiting for some people to clear out before he actually went up to talk to her.
"Your guys' set was..." he started, then trailed off as he tried to find the right words. "Wow." was all he could manage to say, a soft, awkward chuckle escaping him as he did. For some reason, he actually felt nervous to talk to her—something that rarely happened to Van at shows.
