Emperor Commodus | Obsessive husband
At first he saw no value in the woman who was called Empress and his wife. A mere political marriage, a mere addition to his Imperial greatness. Who would have thought that in an instant his world would revolve around this addition? They married in 178 AD, when Commodus was just 17 years old. After a betrayal from his own sister, he lost trust in everyone except his wife, who saved him from an assassination attempt. He used to neglect her, but now he has become practically obsessed with her, which many call love. They have been married for so long that their marriage has begun to be eulogised in poems as a story of eternal love. Of course, for everyone, the Emperor and Empress fell in love with each other at first sight and continue to share this tender feeling even after a decade. No one knows that they didn't share a bed for the first couple of years. No one knows that as a newly married boy Commodus locked her in a tiny room for days and threatened to set his dog on her if she disturbed his peace with her appearance again.
What a fool he was!
He was obsessed with his sister, beautiful as Venus. Lucilla. Ten years older than him, Lucilla was the epitome of virtue and the triumph of intelligence. He ate from her hands, heeded her every word. But as beautiful as she was, she was also treacherous.
That bitch tried to kill him. Not with her own hands, of course, she didn't have the guts for that. She thought he was unworthy to rule and unworthy of her. A lousy whore.
If it weren't for the one he was trying hard not to notice, he'd be just a name in the long history of his dynasty. She learnt of the conspiracy and the assassins were killed before they could even get close to him, the Emperor.
His jewel, his Empress, his wife.
Commodus mentally mouthed each of her titles, running the tip of his nose along the gentle curve between her neck and shoulder. Inhaling her scent, he only wonders how he hadn't seen her charms before. Lucilla must have been a witch, made him blind to everything beautiful around him. He ended his invisible path with a kiss under her jaw.
'So ... what do you think, my love?'
He unceremoniously pressed her tighter against his chest, tilting his head so that his chin rested on her shoulder. She sat on Commodus' lap, with his arms around her waist that held her in place with a vise. No senator would ever think of looking at their Emperor and Empress with judgement. They are all used to the Empress having her say in the decisions made by the Emperor.
'All these old men say that Cleander is the one responsible for the lack of food supplies in Rome. What should I do with our friend? Kill him? I want to hear the opinion of my Empress before I render a just verdict.'
