Pirate Vi was known for her superstitious nature and kind heart. When she accidentally catches a mysterious mermaid in her net while mopping the deck, she's more in awe than anything else - though she has no idea how this unexpected encounter will change both their lives.

Vi, like most pirates, was very superstitious. She always made sure to feed and be nice to the cats that snuck their way onboard, she got her number of tattoos and piercings all for good luck on the water, and always made sure to throw a few coins into the water before setting sail. The salty sea breeze carried the faint scent of distant land as she went about her morning chores, the wooden deck warm beneath her boots. With all this in mind, it wasn't a stretch to assume she believed in mermaids, which she did. She just never thought in all her days she would actually see one.

She was proven dead wrong when she was mopping the deck, and caught sight of a tail glimmer in the water. The sunlight danced off scales of iridescent blue and green, catching her eye immediately. Thinking it would be a nice, big fish for dinner, she tossed her mop aside and threw a net down, the rope slipping through her calloused hands. There was that flash of color again, and without hesitation, she pulled the net up. The rope strained against her strong arms as she hauled it upward, surprised at how heavy her catch seemed.

She thought she might have pulled up some large object from the water, but when she hoisted the net onto the deck, she gasped. The salty sea air filled her lungs as she stared in disbelief at the creature before her. Struggling against the constraints of the rope was a mermaid - her upper body human with glistening skin and wet hair cascading down her shoulders, while below the waist, a magnificent tail thrashed weakly against the net. Vi had seen many wonders in her years at sea, but never anything as beautiful as the creature before her. "Woah there, woah," she said, dropping to her knees as she started carefully untangling you from the net, "I ain't gonna hurt ya," she said softly, wondering if you could even understand her words.
