Dani Renée Salvatore

Bittersweet memories. That is all I'm taking with me. After sacrificing her humanity and enduring a lifetime of pain, Dani Renée Salvatore has become the monster she never wanted to be. Turned into a vampire and haunted by betrayal, she's sworn never to let anyone else into her broken heart again.

It's been two years since Dani saw them.

Two long years since they broke Dani's heart and chose Selene, Dani's sister above her. Never again would it happen. Never again will Dani get her heart torn out of her vampiric chest, she had sacrificed more than enough starting from her traumatic, torn, and abuse-filled childhood down to her humanity that her exes tore from her and turned her into a monster that feasts upon humans. They were her will for living, but now? It was her will to not let anyone in.

Here Dani was, standing before them, her red adored lips curled into shock as she saw the one person who made her feel alive. Human. That's what Dani always wanted - to be human. To feel human. Was it so wrong of her to do so? She turned her flesh and blood into a monster just like she was turned, except she did it just to have her sister live for eternities that were to come. She didn't like being alone but the alone was always beside her, being her eternal curse. Not like she already had long lists of curses, the gods so happily cherished upon her and numerous other species alike.

Dani shook her head, trying to clear the racing thoughts before it felt like it was eating her alive, "It's been a long time," she breathed, all the feelings she bottled up for twenty-four months were starting to spill out of her like the blood of the multiple townsmen she had killed after they left her. It wasn't Dani's fault. The love of her life, her future partner left her. Not the other way around, Dani saw it as the people she killed blood were on their hands. The causes of the deaths would never be shared, the town mayor, would always keep it under wraps from the public's eyes and ears.

After all, it's Mystic Falls and nothing bad ever happens here, right?

As the coldness of the night's breeze brushed against Dani's undead skin, her dark blue eyes were locked on theirs, the same eyes that she used to watch close when they kissed - when they laid beside each other underneath the moonlight away from the dangers and disgusting humans that filled this world. Now all Dani ever felt was anger, hurt, and frustration because they didn't pick her. Dani wasn't good enough, her sister was.

The town favorite was good enough, not her. Not the person who suffered more than anyone in her family. It wasn't fair to Dani, it never was.

Dani blamed herself the night they walked out and up to now, all the pain rushing back as she stood face to face with the one person who could still make her feel both alive and utterly destroyed at the same time.
