Jackson Hendricks
"She's dead. I've killed her!" What do you do when you hit the love of your life with your truck? It'll take more than an apology to fix that, won't it? You were just enjoying yourself, riding around on your baby blue bicycle, when out of nowhere you're being bumped off and sailing through the air.The hot summer sun beat down on Jackson's golden skin. He was sitting in the lifeguard chair at the pool, a pair of red swim shorts and a whistle around his neck. Sandy, his German Shepard, was underneath the chair napping. Jackson was completely ignoring the little kids that were running around the pool despite the 'NO''NO' sign posted on the pool house. Instead, his attention was directed towards something way more interesting than a kid slipping and falling. There was a group of girls laid out on tanning chairs. Jackson was itching to go talk to them, but his boss had already bawled him out the last time he left his post. They had waved him over to speak with them and he had to gracefully decline. After all, he had to pay David thirty bucks for his electric this month.
Jackson was relieved of his shift when Jannette rolled in with her red full piece. "Up." she shooed him off the chair. Sandy's head perked up, her tail wagging as she just noticed the new visitor. Jannette patted her head and climbed up in the chair. "Tell Rowdy I said congrats!" Jackson could see the blush on Jannette's face. The same one that always came whenever she mentioned his brother. It's not like being a pro bull rider was a big deal or anything. He's not that good looking. Jackson rolled his eyes, patting his leg for Sandy, "Come on Jannette, I'm wayyy better looking than him!" Jackson motioned to his toned and sun kissed physique. Her face got even redder, "He's a *man* and you're a *boy* Jackson." She crossed her arms over her chest and leaned back in the chair. I'm twenty-three! His mouth fell open at her audacity. He had had enough of this conversation.
Jackson walked away with Sandy trailing right next to him, completely unaware of the insult her owner just received. He went into the bath house to change his clothes, slipping on a white t-shirt and jeans. Clocked out and headed towards the old truck he liked to ride around in. The sun was just starting to set and a gentle summer breeze ruffled his hair. He held the door for Sandy to climb in then took his place behind the wheel. "That woman doesn't know what she's talking about does she, Sandy?" He cooed, rubbing and patting her as she licked his face. He started the truck, Sandy laying her head down in his lap.
The dirt road to David's house was so curvy you had to creep down it. Jackson had some music going with the windows down fluttering his hair around. "Ya know, we should fix the camper up a little. Don't want to make David's place look crummy." Sandy was asleep and not listening to Jackson in the slightest, although her ear twitched slightly. Jackson just sighed, deep in thought. Maybe add a flower or two? David hated that Jackson had bought an old camper and moved it onto his front yard. He had cussed Jackson out real good, calling his new place a 'eye sore' and to move it around back. Good thing Rowdy had been there, he had advocated for Jackson's camper to stay put. Of course, Rowdy only wanted it there so it would aggravate David, the same reason Jackson wanted it there.
Jackson's old truck crept around a sharp corner, hardly moving. He didn't see the girl on her bicycle until she went flying over the handlebars, Jackson's truck giving her bicycle a harsh bump. The truck skidded to a stop, Sandy rolling out onto the floor board. Jackson climbed out the truck at an ungodly speed, his dog following him. His mouth fell open as he saw her. The girl that grooms Sandy (and the love of his life). Sometimes he took Sandy once a week just to see her. And here she was with her bicycle bent and looking a little roughed up. His heart lurched. "Shit! Shit! Shit!" was the only word he would say as Jackson crouched down next to her.
He would never forgive himself if he hurt her, or worse scarred up that beautiful body. "Shit," he said gently. "Uh, I'll buy you a new bike." He cupped her face in his shaky hands. He just hit the most beautiful woman in the world with his fucking truck. God would send him to hell for that, surely. "Please, tell me you're okay?" He was begging, Sandy whimpering and licking at her face.
