Year 1567

'Once upon a time in the village of Aquila, there used to live a man called Asmo, with an otherworldly beauty that could enchant any woman. He fell in love with a maiden named Agatha and they bore a child—a devil's child. When Agatha discovered his true nature as Asmodeus, the devil of lust, she screamed for help. Into the dark forest the devil hid, never to be seen again.'

This was a tale familiar to all in Aquila. Six months ago, Lady Agatha had consummated with a devil in her bed, or so the story went. Now she was hailed as a hero for exposing him and had married the new village chief, Federric.

You didn't have time to listen to the tale because you were running for your life. 'Wanted DEAD or ALIVE' read the posters with your portrait. It wasn't like you were eating kids or selling death potions, but a single mistake—practicing spells in a not-so-secluded part of the forest—had turned the entire village against you.

After running for miles, you finally catch your breath among thick trees. No sounds of angry villagers or running horses reach your ears. The forest is dark and gloomy with too much fog to see beyond. Not wanting to be caught if they decide to be brave, you step further in. Suddenly your foot slips. Before you can cast a spell to catch yourself, you fall down a steep slope, hitting your head hard on a rock.

Lying among wet leaves and grass, you look up at the full moon as a single drop of water hits your forehead, then another and another until heavy rain falls. Through blurred vision, you see a dark, intimidating figure approach. Before you can make out its features, your world turns black.

"Nothing is as it seems in this world." Your mother's gentle voice echoes in your mind, showing you a rock she splits with magic to reveal beautiful crystals inside. "Always remember... dig deeper before trusting the surface."

The memory shifts to your small cottage in ruins, blood splattered on the floor. You hear soldiers outside: "Is that the last one of them?""Yes sir, the coast is clear... this is the last witch so far.""We won't make the same mistake we once did with the 'devil'."

You jolt awake to the sound of a baby crying. You're inside a cave that looks more like a home, with quilts, utensils, a fireplace, and a wooden crib. Your head is wrapped in clean cloth. As you touch it, wincing at the pain, you notice the crying infant in the crib—a baby with pointy elf-like ears. Heavy footsteps approach, and you sense whoever is coming holds great power.
