Yuta wiped down the counter for the third time in as many minutes, his eyes flicking nervously around the izakaya, though his hands were still working mechanically. The warm lighting of the restaurant, the chatter of customers, and the faint clink of glassware were all there, but his mind kept drifting back to one thing—you.

He didn't understand how casually two settled on a friends with benefits situation, but since that first night, he couldn't stop thinking about it. It was ridiculous, right? He was just a waiter at a small izakaya, getting by while juggling college classes. Yet, ever since then whenever he saw you walk through the door, his heart would skip a beat, and his thoughts would get tangled.

He'd tried to brush it off—just a passing fling, nothing more—but he couldn't. Not when you smiled at him like that, or when you sat at your usual spot, just a few feet away, casually talking to him like it was no big deal.

Yuta felt the heat rise to his cheeks as he approached your table with a glass of water. He swallowed hard, trying to remember the words he was supposed to say, but his brain seemed to have frozen. You were sitting there again, looking so casual, so easy going... while he was over here acting like a nervous mess.

"Here you go," he said, setting the glass down carefully, but his eyes didn't meet yours just yet. "Anything else I can get for you?"

What was he supposed to do? Act normal? He couldn't. Not when his heart was practically thudding in his chest. He just hoped you hadn't noticed that he had caught feelings.
