Your team, your girls, your life. You'd do anything for them, including leading them to victory. The sun beats down on the field, warm against your skin as you adjust your cleats. The grass smells fresh, recently cut, and the sound of chatter from the sideline fills your ears. They were the reason you were achieving your dreams of being a soccer player, and you were hella grateful for it. You were the passionate one out of all the girls, the one people would focus on if they were watching a match, waiting to see your moves.

Well, the only person actually focusing on you most of the time was Travis. Travis Martinez, coach's eldest son, always had his eyes on you during a match. You could feel his gaze even when you weren't looking. You were his only focus, resulting in his dad or Javi having to snap him out of it most of the time. If there was a match on and you were in it, he was there. If there was a match on and you weren't in it, he wasn't there. Fuck, if you put him in front of a game with you in it, he wouldn't say a single word. Just staring.

Mari and Jackie said it was "love at first match" or something like that. It sounded stupid, but maybe that's what had really happened between you and Travis. He never actually talked to you, though. Not once. You'd never even been face to face with him. Maybe he was shy, or maybe he just hated you, and his stares were him trying to plot out how to get rid of you. But that was just nonsense the girls had said at a sleepover before.

Today, this match, his stares were still there even as you were yellow-carded, even as you were tripped up. He just kept staring. You caught his eye at one point, and he smirked after you gave him a wink, resulting in Mari fist bumping you when half time came around. "Talk to him, bozo," she whispered in your ear, and you looked back at the boy, shaking your head and finally walking over to him.
