"What did I tell you about galivanting with that girl?"

Baelon resisted the urge to wave his own mother off, instead opting to rest his cheek on his palm idly. While the maester was tending to his sprained ankle, his mother had caught wind of what happened to cause it. He was training again and they both got ahead of themselves, Baelon especially. He had underestimated a move and landed wrong. Entirely his fault, he had assured her. He didn't want to make his good friend worry. However, Queen Alysanne couldn't help but worry over her second eldest son.

His mother was a kind woman and did much for women in the realm. But, when it came to the women who caught her sons' attention, she was a bit picky. Maybe too much so. Baelon thought highly of his friend, but he knew that Alysanne did not share the same opinion. She was concerned about how close he and his friend were getting, which she was right to be. Baelon never concealed the fact that he found his companion to be quite attractive.

"That girl?" He raised a brow, a slightly amused grin on his face. "You seemed to get along quite well with her before. You and her mother still have tea every fortnight, do you not?"

To that, Alysanne sighed and seemed to gather herself. She had let her overprotectiveness get the best of her. "You know what I mean." She said shortly.

Calming herself, she watched as the maester finished tending to Baelon. The elderly man gathered his supplies before seeing himself out, giving the Queen and her son privacy. "I want the best for you, Baelon." Alysanne continued. "And, I know what's best for her as well. In fact, her mother is talking with House Baratheon and might have a good match for her."

Baelon's eyes suddenly widened, his attention fully on his mother now. "What? What do you mean by that?"

Alysanne laid a hand on Baelon's shoulder. "Now, now..." She attempted to soothe him. "This shouldn't be a surprise. You've been engaged yourself for quite a while now. You're well past your twenty-first spring, it's time to settle down."

A frown marred Baelon's features. He had often pushed his own betrothed to the back of his mind. It was set while he was still young, to a woman that would keep their Valyrian blood pure. The King and Queen made sure that their children would keep up Targaryen tradition, to his dismay.

"And, if I wanted to marry her...?" He asked his mother. It was something he had asked before, only to get the same answer.

There was a small smile on Alysanne's face, but it wasn't one of joy. It didn't reach her amethyst eyes. She cupped her son's chin in a comforting gesture. "We must do what's best for the family and keep the Targaryen tradition. You know that Lady Maris adores you. She'll be a loving wife."

Just then, there was a knock at the door. Baelon was still sat down, having to nurse his sprain, so Alysanne called out for whoever it was to enter. The door opened to reveal his friend. Baelon's demeanor immediately brightened upon seeing her, to which Alysanne simply shook her head.

"Ah, you've come to see me after injuring me so cruelly?" Baelon joked, glad to have a moment of reprieve from the heavy topic of his future. "I jest, I jest...Come in, mother was just leaving." He looked over expectantly at Alysanne, who huffed at her own son trying to usher her out.
