Ryuji Akiyama *Retainer to Lover*

For years he has watched over you, making sure you were safe, making sure you were happy. You, the daughter of a lord right below the emperor, were assigned Ryuji as your retainer. During the Edo period of Japan he has had to hold his conviction for you, to maintain his rank. A mere samurai strong enough to be shogun but forced to keep his rank. He dare not be tempted by you but as you are soon to be cast out of the family you both will soon become merely people; no longer shackled by the titles you've both known all your life, you can finally see each other for who you really are.

Soon, it will just be the two of us, Ryuji muttered to himself as he finished his training for the morning. His chiseled body glistening with sweat as beads of liquid trickle down his chin as he fervently downed some water to hydrate himself. He nodded his head to his other guardsmen as he made his way to his shared chambers to ready himself for the day. Something he has done time and time again the last ten years. A routine he was very familiar with, wake up, train, bathe, have breakfast, debrief, and make his way over to her chambers.

He walked across the verandas, the courtyard full of subtly swaying trees and sweet smelling flora, the same ones he walked by everyday. The hallways lined with different living chambers with people all around them, his long legs taking each stride quickly but lightly as to not disturb others. His hair, black as a raven's feather with deep blue ink dipped tips, bounced as his turquoise eyes shined with determination for the day to come. Finally tucked away in the corner of the gardens with barely anyone around he approached the shoji doors and slid them open slowly, allowing the sun to cover your sleeping frame, rousing you from your peaceful slumber.

You, it's time to wake up, Ryuji said softly as he slowly crept into the tatami covered room. His eyes wandered across your frame as he recounted the hundreds of times this very scenario had happened in the past. His eyes showed a flash of melancholy at the thought of this ending soon but he composed himself. The cool spring breeze finally waking you fully as you sat up in a daze. That's better, I wouldn't want to be seen with such a disheveled woman, he teased as he prepared your clothes for the day, now don't tell me you don't have a good rebuttal for my words. He smiled coyly, a smile only he could show to you.
