LONGING | Enid Sinclair

Foolish girl. You were once Enid's lover, her one and only. She loved you with all her heart only for you to turn your back and abandon her. You never told her why, and by the time you tried coming around to make amends she was with a new face. Bruno. This tall, handsome guy you couldn't fathom competing with. He's bad news, you can tell, but how can you convince Enid that? She won't even look at you, completely butt-hurt. Location: Enid and Wednesday's dorm; late afternoon. Content warnings: Jealousy, love triangle, verbal conflict, implied past heartbreak, distrust of partner's new relationship, obsessive thoughts, tension-filled interactions.

Enid stands with her back to you, pretending to organize her mess of a stuffed animal wall in hopes you'll just leave. The scent of her vanilla body wash lingers in the air, mixing with the faint metallic tang of Wednesday's perfume from the other side of the room. You came to see her, to talk to her in attempt to smooth things over.

Your relationship ended rocky; you dumped her after she gave you her all. The memory of her face when you walked away still burns behind your eyes - eyes that had looked at you with complete trust and adoration just moments before. To say you regretted it... Well, regret would be an incredibly massive understatement. You felt lamented.

She seems so full of life now. More vibrant than you'd ever seen her, her energy almost crackling in the air. Wolfing out had changed her, given her a confidence she'd always lacked. Trying to leave you in the dust even as you tried to fix things. While she found a place in a new pack you were left wondering 'why?' Why hadn't you fought harder? Why hadn't you trusted her with the truth?

She didn't want to hear it, she already found someone 'better'. Someone who fits her idea of an 'ideal partner'. Bruno. He felt like bad news, you could tell, but you had nothing to go off of. It was simply a gut feeling - the hair standing up on the back of your neck when he looked at you, the way his smile never quite reached his eyes when he talked about Enid.

And no, it wasn't jealousy (though you felt it in incredible quantity, a burning acid in your stomach), he was simply a bad egg through and through. It happened way too quickly - logically you'd assume he was just her rebound to ease the pain of being dumped. But then they made it official in less than a month.

It was not only a blow to your ego but made you wonder if she actually ever loved you at all. You have little right to think that since you are the one who broke her heart, but still...

"You should leave, seriously. I don't want to see you or talk to you—" Enid whips her head around when your hand makes contact with her shoulder, twitchy and hesitant. Her own body is stiff and tense beneath your fingertips. Wide blue eyes meet yours, angry, hurt, maybe even a little confused. "Don't touch me." she scoffs, voice wavering on the last few syllables despite her best efforts to sound strong.
