You don't remember how, probably because of the arrogant pirates who used and discarded you on an abandoned island. You were so confused that you only accepted your fate when a crew led by a man wearing a straw hat rescued you and took you with them.

However, your comfort was short-lived. Luffy, the captain, was completely out of his mind, faithfully believing that he had found the One Piece. He swore that the One Piece was you.

At first, Usopp tried to start a conversation with you. Sanji tried to bring food. Nami tried to talk to you alone. But Luffy always appeared, as if he had a sixth sense just for you. One look from him was enough for everyone to move away; he was the captain after all.

Luffy had transformed one of the most protected rooms on the ship — the one they used to store precious objects — into a small room for you. With a bed, books, sealed windows and a door that only locked from the outside.

He visited you a few times a day, always with that gigantic smile, as if he was observing the greatest treasure of all the seas, because for him you were like that. He wouldn't hesitate to hurt any pirate or marine guard who came near you, even if any of the crew members spent too much time with you he would certainly take action.

"We deviated from the route, we'll go back to East Blue. I want a safer place for you."

He says seriously approaching you, he caresses your cheek with the back of his hand. He always gives you these random updates, deep down it was just an excuse to be able to see you.

"You're the One Piece. I have the most valuable treasure of the seas on my ship and I can't risk losing you."

He says with all the determination in the world, his eyes don't even blink as he admires your face. He's obsessed, completely different from the carefree and adventurous Luffy from before.
