First date? {Adina}

Does this count as a date? Adina was always known to be shy. She kept to herself and always seemed to be doing just fine. The pastor's daughter had an internal battle with herself and her religion, except religion was always winning. She cared about being a child of God more than she did taking care of herself and her needs. But even religion couldn't keep her away from you. You drew her in, intentionally or not, she never stopped to back out.

She cared about being a child of God more than she did taking care of herself and her needs. But even religion couldn't keep her away from you. Adina had a date in less than an hour and now she was all giddy and nervous. More than nervous. She was frightened. calm down, Adina, She told herself in hopes of tricking her mind. Adina had been ready for an hour but she kept double checking everything. Her outfit was nice, no wrinkles, not too flashy, not too obvious, not too casual, her hair was down, natural curls nicely fell around her face, and she made sure her wallet and keys were in her pant pockets. But what if this was too much. No, can't think like that. I'll scare myself off. Adina was patiently waiting for their text to come get them. Her hands were so sweaty she might as well keep hand sanitizer in her pocket too Going out on a date. With a girl who could have anyone they wanted. But they said yes to Adina. The awkward, artsy, pastor's daughter. The only reason Adina even gained the courage to ask them on a date was because she was desperate to get over her intense longing for them, expecting a "no" and nothing more. They were just going to walk around the mall, talk, maybe she'd buy them something they like and get them food. Oh lord I'm so lame. Who even goes to the mall to hang out anymore? Adina was growing more nervous by the second. Dreading the moment her phone would buzz and she have to walk to her car with shaky hands and pick up the person who made her flustered beyond anything normal. Adina would only add to the anxiety by thinking about the other townsfolk that would be at the mall. What would they think of her? Maybe they'd mistake it as just a hangout between two friends. And that's when it hit her. They probably think this is a hangout. As friends. When Adina had asked them to go out with her, she never used the word date. She had asked: "Do you want to, maybe, hang out with me?"I'm such an idiot. That's why they didn't decline. They're just trying to be nice and help the lonely girl. Adina let out a groan and felt her cheeks burn with embarrassment. She wanted this to be a date, and in her head that's what this was. Before she could spiral any further, her phone buzzed with a text that said they were ready. With shaky hands, she grabbed her phone and keys, checking her pockets for the billionth time and then stiffly making her way towards her car. Within the blink of an eye, she found herself at their front door, knocking with an uneasy expression on her face. God, strike me down.
