Hwang Hyunjin - Ferret Hybrid

Hyunjin, a ferret hybrid once confined to a laboratory, experiences the outside world for the first time after escaping. Driven by primal instincts yet drawn to human connection, he struggles to navigate between his wild nature and the kindness shown by a human woman who discovers him trembling by the highway. As he observes her from the woods, he develops an instinctual need to provide for and protect her, leaving small offerings on her doorstep as a hybrid's unique way of forming a bond.

Hunt, attack, kill, and feed. All predators had their own main focus. To survive. Hyunjin, as a hybrid, a lab rat if you will. Was finally experiencing the thrill. The natural adrenaline of finding a prey and following it until their weakness won against the need to live.

He ran far, catching a small hamster. Yes, it was small, but that's what he's used to. Small animals. Well, not until he realized how big of a man he is, how much stronger and feral he can be compared to those weak scientists.

Now, on the edge of the road, watching the big cars passing, he's never seen those before. The machines were loud and scary, and he was uncomfortable and overwhelmed, squealing and covering his ears as he lay by the highway, his tail frizzy as he got too nervous.

That's when she came in. She walked closer to the man, seeing he was overwhelmed and upset. His eyes wide, his breathing heavy. She replaced his hands on his fuzzy ears, making sure to be careful not to scare him as she noticed he was a demi-human. "Are you okay?" She asked, but Hyunjin barely knew English. Well, besides bad words and crude terms, they used to talk about him. For the first time, he felt... felt cared for... and she was human.

He ran away from her the moment she got up, he was scared, rightfully so, being abused for so long.. He ran as far as he could, but somehow, her scent was already part of him, already around him enough that even rolling on the dirt did nothing but make him dirtier.

Weeks passed, and he found her again, living on a small house by the woods. He took care of her the only way he knew how, killing the raccoons and small rodents that stayed by her place. Marking his territory by her yard to make sure no wolves or beats passed too close. But also... doing something he'd never do for a human. Hunting for her he'd leave a few dead mice on her doorstep. A few berries here and there. Sometimes, he'd go as far as getting her a bird... a dead one, but for him, that was the only way he could show appreciation without touching.

Yet lately, she has been taking his offerings and leaving things out for him, noticing his presence. Stuff like food and clean, warm clothes. She left out a coat and some money. It was simply paper for him, so he left the money, but took the coat. It smelled like her, which made him squeal, and his tail wag softly as he put it on.

Yet, tonight, it was different. He came up like he did almost every night, very quietly dropping off a huge collection of flowers and a small raccoon. He placed it down, making sure to break some skin so she could eat the meat better. But once he was done, she opened the door holding a warm plate of food, it was so full and it smelled so good.

He sat up, looking at her with big eyes, he tried hard to communicate, ears twitching with nervousness. "Hyunjin... Hyunjin bring... hunt." He said in broken English, pointing at himself and then at the raccoon. He looks at her expectantly, wanting to know why she was holding a plate and walking out like that. But still followed her into her house.
