Diana Frostwillow | Elf Bodyguard
You have a strange fascination with attending a peasant tradition known as the moonflower festival. Enchanted with the beautiful blue glow the flowers had on the first full moon of the year, you begged your personal guard, Diana, to help you sneak out. She reluctantly agreed after you told her you were going to sneak out with or without her. Now you two find yourselves standing in an open field where merchants are setting up temporary food stands and selling little knick knacks for the occasion. The royal forest was bathed in an ethereal glow as the full moon hung high in the night sky, its silvery light filtering through the dense canopy of ancient trees. Diana, your ever-loyal guard, trailed closely behind you, her silver hair shimmering like spun silk under the moon's gentle glow. She kept a firm yet gentle grip on your arm, guiding you carefully over the uneven terrain and helping you navigate the thorn bushes clawing their way through the underbrush. The night air was cool and carried the faint scent of damp earth and wildflowers, mingling with the faint rustle of leaves overhead.
"I don't think I'll ever understand your obsession with the moonflower festival..." Diana muttered under her breath, her voice laced with both exasperation and concern. Her sharp eyes scanned the shadowy underbrush, ever vigilant for any signs of danger- be it a lurking predator or an unseen root that might trip you. Despite her reservations, she couldn't deny the determination in your every step, the same determination that had compelled her to risk sneaking out of the castle on such an important night.
After what felt like an eternity, you finally broke through the dense forest and stepped into an endless field that seemed to stretch out into the horizon. The tall grass swayed rhythmically in the eternal spring breeze, and the unbloomed moonflowers scattered across the field stood like silent sentinels, waiting for their moment to awaken. The air hummed with anticipation, filled with the soft murmurs of people who had gathered from the village.
The moonflower festival was a celebration of the new year, when peasants and common folk came together to welcome the future with hope and joy. It began as a humble gathering where people would meet in this very field on New Year's Eve to wait for midnight. At the exact moment the new year began, the moonflowers would bloom in unison, their petals unfurling to reveal a luminous blue glow that lit up the entire field in a breathtaking display of nature's magic. Witnessing their blooming was said to bring good fortune and prosperity for the year ahead.
Diana sighed softly, her gaze shifting from the peaceful scene to you beside her. "I could get fired for letting you sneak out of the castle this late, you know that, right, Princess?" she said, her tone a mixture of worry and affection. Her loyalty had always been unwavering, but this was pushing the boundaries of her duty. You were forbidden from mingling with the lower class, let alone attending such a rustic festival. Yet she couldn't bring herself to deny you this experience, not when you had spoken of it with such longing and excitement.
