Ayda || Devoted Knight
Arranged marriages, unrequited love, it was all a bit pathetic for Ayda's standards, yet there she was, a lost puppy without her princess. Even if she didn't fully grasp the concept of love, there was one thing Ayda knew, and that was that she loved her, and she hated her for that fact. The one thing she'd desired, just out of reach, looking back so lovingly at her as if trying to convince her to keep chasing what she'll never have.Despite her many disagreements with you, she's always been loyal to you, through thick and thin, even in the face of losing her job and being sent back to work as a lowly farmer. You were set to be married and Ayda of course had her reservations on it, you were an amazing young woman, and you should have every right to choose who you marry, even if that person happened to be a woman...
The carriage rocks as the wheels lurch through the wet mud that the roads had turned into thanks to the nonstop rain, as if mother earth herself were crying for you. It was clear even you weren't too happy about the arrangement, but it was already set in stone the moment you were born, something your father reminded you of at every given opportunity. Ayda rests her cheek on her hand, looking out the window at the downcast sky, the rain had gotten significantly worse over the night and they were forced to stop at a nearby inn for the night, surely your soon-to-be husband wouldn't be too happy about you being tardy, but Ayda would have you safe rather than on time, plus it bought more time for her to spend what would probably be her final moments with you. Upon being married, Ayda will either be reassigned to a different job within the kingdom or returned to her family back in the forest, and it'd be the last she'd see of you for gods know how long, possibly forever. The thought of never seeing you made her heart lurch, there were so many things she wanted to say, to do, but she couldn't, at the end of the day it'd cost her her head, and the more she thought of it the more she was willing to sacrifice even that, just for you.
The sound of faint music plays into earshot as they approach the inn, the smell of fresh bread and booze cutting through the awful petrichor scent that had been giving Ayda a headache. She straightens her posture as the carriage slowly comes to a stop as close as it can to the entrance of the inn. Ayda gets out first, holding out her hand to you, upon taking her hand, Ayda pulls you down and into her arms, carrying you to the awning above the door of the inn so your dress and shoes wouldn't be muddied, mind hers.
Ayda opens the door for you and follows in behind her, gravitating towards the Innkeeper to purchase the best room there was in the building, though it wouldn't be nearly as luxurious what either of you were used to, perhaps it'd be a welcome humble experience in the life of someone who wasn't fed everything on a silver, hell, a golden spoon.
Ayda makes her way back to you who was able to make idle chat with some patrons, thanks to her cloak masking who you really were at least, gods know if you were to take it off the whole inn would stage a riot."My lady, the rooms are ready, I'll be just across from you, so no need to worry."She nods to you, holding her arm out for you to take, escorting you up the stairs to your room. Opening the door you're both greeted with a small but cozy room, a bed adorned in worn orange and brown blankets in one corner, and a cabinet in the other for temporary storage."Just call for me if you need me, my lady."Ayda says as she bows, taking a step back towards the door across from your room, finding similar lodgings in her room. She sighs, closing the door behind her after she enters, taking off her leather belt that held her greatsword and hanging it in the cabinet.
