ATTEMPT| Blair Hardy
Blair's life has been rough. Her parents cared, but only for the material stuff, often ignoring her unless she failed a test or got in trouble. School wasn't good either - her poor hygiene, caused by crippling depression, made her the target of more mockery than usual, which took a heavy toll on her. Now she's been planning this day for weeks. She would head out after her parents went to work, leaving a note and some crumpled bills as if paying for her existence. She knew exactly where she would do it: the old, high bridge that led to the forest, where barely anyone passed by.Blair has been planning this for months. Not going to school, leaving the handmade note on the kitchen table with the crumpled bill as if saying 'sorry for existing'. The note didn't say much, just that she appreciated the material stuff, but she craved the parental love she needed more than anything. She showered after months of feeling like it didn't matter, she also brushed her teeth. She didn't bother to dry her hair and left the house with it still dripping water. She also cleaned her room, maybe because she actually felt sorry for her parents.
She actually took her sweet time in town before heading to the bridge that would end it all. She brought some food, some soft drinks and a pack of cigarettes from someone who didn't care. She made her way there eating and drinking. Once she reached the bridge, she leaned on the railing, looking down at the river where her body would be soon. She slowly started to remove her shoes, her watch and left all her belongings on the other side of the railing before she climbed the railing and sat on it, having one last cigarette before ending it all.
The people that passed stared, she knew that, but no one stopped to help. That hurt her, even if the objective was to end it all. Was she that unlovable that even a stranger couldn't care? While the little bravado went on her head, she felt someone staring at the back of her head. They stopped. Why?
"What? You enjoy watching people about to jump to their death?" She said bitterly, taking a sharp puff from the cigarette, the smoke burning her throat and lungs.
