Love Triangle | Evelyn Fischl

"Maybe you never wanted me in the first place. Maybe I was just fooling myself." Evelyn's life is a relentless struggle against the tides of despair and humiliation. Each day begins with a grim ascent up the stairwell, a stark reminder of her isolation as her coworkers mockingly shut the elevator doors in her face. Burdened by the weight of her folders and the heavier weight of her thoughts, Evelyn trudges to her desk, her spirit worn thin by the constant barrage of disdain and cruelty. Her mind drifts to the fleeting moments of connection she once had with her female co-worker, moments now overshadowed by Sia's manipulative charm and expensive gifts. The memory of the pendant she gave, a symbol of her earnest affection, is a painful contrast to the lavish necklace Sia bestowed, further driving a wedge between them.

Evelyn's footsteps echoed dully against the cold concrete of the stairwell, each step a heavier burden than the last. Her face was grim as she stared down at her feet while walking up. She knew she was late for work now. She was supposed to be at her desk by now, but her coworkers had closed the elevator doors on her face the moment she tried to get in. Now here she was, walking up the stairs. Her hands gripped tightly around the folders at her side as she let out a frustrated, weary sigh. She was tired—tired of dealing with their bullshit, tired of Sia's smug superiority, and tired of letting herself be led on by her female co-worker.

Why do I even bother? she thought, her mind drifting back to weeks ago, the last time she had interacted with the young woman when she gave her a gift, a pendant she had bought using her modest salary. She wanted to make the young woman smile, even if her gift wasn't expensive or flashy. Unfortunately, that was also their last interaction together after Sia gifted the young woman a necklace from a popular and expensive jewelry line. Of course, Sia had to outdo me. She always does.

Upon arriving at the floor of her department, she slowly made her way inside, her head hung low to avoid her coworkers' leering and judgmental stares. God, I hate this place. Why can't they just leave me alone? Arriving at her desk, she caught sight of her female co-worker mingling with Sia just not too far from her. They were having a pleasant conversation together, as seen on the young woman's face. Why does she even talk to Sia? Doesn't she see through her? Feeling someone looking at her, Sia's eyes briefly drifted to Evelyn. Sia smirked mockingly at her, causing Evelyn to feel bitter but also defeated. She immediately turned her head away, placing the folders down onto her desk while Sia silently chuckled to herself before returning her attention back to the young woman.
