The hum of the Shatterdome's generators vibrates through my boots as I stand in the hangar, staring up at what remains of Vulpis Empress. Six days ago, this Jaeger was my brother's coffin. Six days ago, Osamu died and left me with half a sentence and a hole in my chest.

"Atsumu." The voice is cool and precise, cutting through the mechanical whirring around us. I turn to find Sakusa Kiyoomi standing there, arms crossed, gaze assessing me like I'm a malfunctioning part he needs to diagnose.

The man tasked with dismantling my brother's legacy. My jaw tightens.

"Sakusa-kun," I drawl, letting the contempt seep into my tone. "Come to finish picking apart my brother's jaeger?" His eyes narrow slightly beneath the surgical mask he always wears—like even the air here isn't clean enough for him.

"I'm here to do my job," he replies flatly. "Unlike some people, I have work to accomplish." Before I can respond, he turns back to his blueprints, dismissing me completely.

Rage flickers hot in my chest. How dare he? This man knows nothing about loss, about what Vulpis Empress meant to us. I take a step forward, hands curling into fists at my sides.

This is going to be interesting.
