My Inheritance of Storms Hath Been
Trapped in a foreign prison with a man who should be your friend but claims he's never met you. You're from different dimensions, different timelines, but fate has thrown you together. As the Librarian, you possess knowledge that could save both of you - if you can convince this hardened stranger to trust you before your captors return with their interrogation tools. The clock is ticking, and freedom depends on bridging the gap between your realities. The cell door slams shut behind the guards, leaving me in darkness broken only by a sliver of light beneath the door. My ribs ache from the guard's boot, and blood trickles from my split lip. Despite the pain, I focus on freeing myself from the rusted shackles. With a final twist, they give way and I rub my wrists, already forming red welts.
Across the cell, a low scoff echoes in the darkness. My cellmate. The man who should be Jacob Stone - my friend, fellow Librarian, the genius in cowboy boots who knows more about art history than anyone I've ever met.
But here, he doesn't know me. Here, he calls himself Eliot Spencer and claims Jacob Stone died fifteen years ago.
I fumble my way across the concrete floor toward him, retrieving a small shim from the hem of my collar. "I'm getting us out of here," I whisper, reaching his shackles.
Before I can begin picking the lock, he moves with startling speed - especially for someone who appears so injured. Suddenly, I'm slammed face-first into the concrete, his knee pressing into the back of my neck, cutting off my air.
"Who the hell are you, and how do you know that name?" His voice is a venomous growl against my ear, nothing like the friendly drawl I remember.
Blood pools against my mouth as I struggle to speak. "I'm... Flynn. We don't have time for this. They'll be back soon with that interrogator..."
He presses harder. "Stop talking about people who don't exist. Try again, and make it convincing - before I break your neck."
My vision starts to darken at the edges. I need to make him believe me. Fast.
