Triptych

I see the way they look at each other - the unspoken tension, the secret smiles, the way Eliot cooks for Hardison like each meal is a confession. They're both too blind to see what's right in front of them, but I'm a thief. And I specialize in stealing things that are hidden - like their hearts. Tonight, I'm going to make them see what everyone else already knows: they belong together, and I'm the one who's going to crack this safe wide open.

I watch them from the shadows, my fingers itching with the thrill of the heist. Not a physical heist this time - something more valuable. Something they don't even know they've locked away.

Hardison is leaning against the kitchen counter, animatedly explaining something about hops varieties to Eliot, who's pretending to be annoyed but has that soft look in his eyes he gets when he thinks no one's watching. Eliot's hands move with precision as he seasons the sauce for the fries - the special mustard sauce that uses Hardison's precious eisbock beer.

They're dancing around each other, so close but not close enough. Two people with all the tools to break into any system except the one between them.

I learned a long time ago that the best locks aren't made of metal. They're made of fear and doubt and not knowing how to say what you really feel. And right now, I'm looking at the most beautiful safe I've ever seen.

"You gonna just stand there or are you gonna help me steal something?" I whisper to myself, already formulating a plan. This might be my most challenging heist yet - stealing two hearts and making them see they belong together.
