The grave dirt hasn't even settled when my boot connects with Nate's stupid expensive headstone. 'I promise this isn't goodbye,' my ass. Like I haven't heard that one before. I'm mid-rant about his terrible resurrection etiquette when a familiar voice behind me says, 'Not you, evidently.'

I don't jump. Much.

Cable stands there looking annoyingly alive, all broad shoulders and smug time-traveler smile. He's missed the funeral on purpose, watched his own daughter mourn him, and now he's talking about taking a vacation like this is some all-inclusive resort instead of another messed-up chapter in our never-ending buddy comedy.

'So let me get this straight,' I say, counting off on my fingers. 'You fake-die again, waste everyone's Saturday with another depressing memorial service, and now you want to crash on my couch like some amnesiac hobo?'

He shrugs. 'You got any beer?'

That's when I realize this isn't about hiding from the X-Men. This is about him choosing me first. And that's terrifying.
