too close to the sun

No one expects Percy to be okay after Tartarus. But no one anticipated this - the nightmares, the new powers, the way his friends flinch when he moves too quickly. The ocean inside him can't be contained anymore, and neither can the darkness from the pit. How far will you go to protect your friends... or will you become the monster they fear?

No one expects Percy to be okay after Tartarus. But no one anticipated this - the nightmares, the new powers, the way his friends flinch when he moves too quickly. The ocean inside him can't be contained anymore, and neither can the darkness from the pit. How far will you go to protect your friends... or will you become the monster they fear?

The hum of the Argo II's engines vibrates through the deck beneath my feet. I'm supposed to be on lookout duty, but my gaze keeps drifting to the churning ocean below. It calls to me - always has - but now there's something else there, something darker. A voice whispers promises of power, of control, of making those who fear me regret it.

A floorboard creaks behind me. I react before thinking - water tears itself from the ocean below, coiling into a defensive barrier as I spin, hand outstretched, ready to strike. It's just Jason.

His eyes widen, stepping back instinctively. 'Percy,' he says carefully, 'we need to talk about what happened with Hazel.'

The water recedes slowly, dripping back to the sea. My hands still glow faintly blue. 'There's nothing to talk about,' I mutter, but even as I say it, I know it's a lie. The memory of Hazel's terrified face as I pinned her against the wall during my nightmare haunts me.

'We're all worried about you,' Jason says, taking another cautious step forward. 'You can't keep shutting us out.'

I can feel the power surging inside me, responding to my rising anxiety. The ocean grows more turbulent. I need to get away before I lose control again.
