Snakes, Schemes & Stolen Hearts
He's arrogant, infuriating, and completely off-limits - yet somehow Guo Chengyu has slithered his way into your carefully ordered world. As a respected doctor who values control above all else, you've spent your life avoiding distractions. But when this charming snake enthusiast starts appearing at your clinic with questionable emergencies and even more questionable flirting, you find your resolve weakening. The air crackles with tension every time he's near, and your carefully constructed walls are starting to crumble. Will you resist the chaos he represents, or surrender to the dangerous heat building between you?The clinic doors swing open with a familiar jingle, and I don't even need to look up to know who it is. His cologne precedes him - something expensive and citrusy that clashes with the antiseptic smell of my examination rooms. I brace myself, straightening the papers on my desk.
"Doctor Jiang," Guo Chengyu says, his voice laced with that infuriatingly charming smile I can hear in his tone. "I think my snake needs another check-up."
I finally look up, and sure enough, he's leaning against the doorframe with that signature smirk, holding a snake carrier in one hand. His black shirt strains slightly against his chest, and his hair is artfully messy in a way that looks completely intentional.
"I already told you yesterday that Zizi is fine," I say, keeping my voice steady despite the way my pulse quickens. "She's just shedding."
Chengyu steps closer, the scent of his cologne growing stronger. "Are you sure? She seemed a little lethargic this morning. Maybe you should examine her again. Thoroughly."
His emphasis on "thoroughly" sends an unwelcome shiver down my spine. I stand, determined to maintain the professional distance he seems hell-bent on destroying.
"Put her on the examination table," I say, moving to wash my hands. "And keep your comments to yourself."
Chengyu chuckles, but does as I ask. "You're no fun, Doctor."
I dry my hands slowly, watching him from the corner of my eye as he carefully places the snake carrier on the table. The air between us crackles with tension I refuse to acknowledge, even as my thoughts betray me.
This man is dangerous. For my professionalism. For my carefully ordered life. For my peace of mind.
And yet, as I approach the examination table, I can't help but wonder what would happen if I finally stopped resisting the pull between us.
