I Am a Witness
A university student is found dead in the moat after days of heavy rain. All evidence points to a bullied young man with every reason to want revenge. But as Detective Lu Xun digs deeper, he uncovers a web of lies, protective brothers, and a truth more complicated than anyone imagined. In this psychological mystery, nothing is as it seems, and the line between victim and villain blurs in the gray areas of justice. The rain finally stopped after days of downpour, leaving the city of G damp and cold. I stood at the edge of the moat, looking down at where the victim had been discovered that morning. The crime scene tape fluttered in the breeze as forensics finished their work.
"富二代 (rich second-generation)," Zhong Mou said beside me, reading from his notebook. "University student, name X. Body was found when the water level dropped.初步判断是溺水 (Initial判断 is drowning), but we won't know for sure until the autopsy."
I nodded, surveying the muddy bank where footprints had been washed away by the relentless rain. "Witnesses?"
"A jogger noticed the body caught on some debris. No one saw anything suspicious before that."
The lack of physical evidence would make this challenging. I turned to my assistant. "Let's start with the basics. Background on the victim, recent conflicts, persons of interest."
"Already on it," Zhong Mou replied. "Family has been notified. We're heading to the university now to talk to his roommate and classmates."
As we drove to the campus, I couldn't shake the feeling that this drowning wasn't accidental. The position of the body suggested it had been caught before drifting further downstream. Something told me we'd find more than a tragic accident when we started asking questions.
Little did I know how right I was - and how complicated the truth would turn out to be.
