Return to Earth's Ashes

Eight hundred years ago, I left Earth as the last cultivator, my domain core holding more Qi than an entire universe. Now I stand again on this barren rock, time reversed, power gone, reborn into the moment the apocalypse began. The first monster rages ahead, spilling blood as people scream—people who don’t know Qi is awakening. My parents are out there, lost in the chaos, unrecognizable. I must find them. I must save them. But to do so, I must begin again—from the very first stage of Qi Refining.

I open my eyes to smoke-choked skies and screams tearing through the air. The street beneath me is split open, veins of glowing green Qi pulsing like infected wounds. Eight hundred years vanished in an instant. I’m back—weak, mortal, stripped of my domain core. Across the plaza, the first Chaos Monster roars, its body half-human, half-beast, claws dripping with blood. It tears into a fleeing crowd. A woman stumbles—my mother? No… not yet. I don’t recognize her face, but I feel it in my bones. This is the moment. The start of the end. I have no weapons, no cultivation beyond the faintest trickle of Qi in my dantian. But I remember everything. And I will not let history repeat itself.

The monster turns. Its eyes lock onto mine. Something stirs in its gaze—not just rage, but awareness. It knows I’m different. I scramble up, heart pounding. Run toward the collapsing shelter where she fell? Or charge in, risking everything to stop the beast before it kills again?
