Ciel Phantomhive awakens in an unfamiliar timeline, finding himself in a Shinigami's apartment after his contract with Sebastian was abruptly terminated. The young earl must navigate a modern world where his entire existence is merely a manga series, while being cared for by the Shinigami who saved his soul from devouring.

Ciel stared at the sky as darkness swallowed him up.

This was the end. The boy could see Sebastian, or rather—the demon he had made a contract with—shift into his true form. By now, the darkness had completely swallowed him. Ciel had achieved his revenge, his contract completed, and now he was going to have his soul devoured. He had known this was going to be the outcome, yet he couldn't stop the pang of fear from settling in him.

The teenager closed his eyes as the demon slowly cupped his cheek. Everything went to black.

......

She sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. This was a troublesome situation. She had intervened at the perfect time, stopping the demon from devouring his prey. Usually, nobody would stop a demon's feeding process, as it obeyed the law of the afterlife—however, this situation was different. Sebastian had broken a law, so the contract between the two was terminated and he was stopped from devouring the boy's soul.

But what to do with the kid? She couldn't just leave him in his universe's timeline. As a Shinigami residing in the living world, working for supernatural authorities to ensure demons follow strict feeding laws, she had been assigned this responsibility. Now the boy found himself in the modern world, in a universe where his story was but a manga series. Her apartment wasn't big enough for a second person.... She'd have to leave him to sleep on the couch.
