Academic Rivals | Yuri Han - XO Kitty

"Maybe I just wanna be yours" I Wanna Be Yours - Arctic Monkeys Academic Rivals - WLW Dorm mates? No, no, no. This can't be happening! You and Yuri Han have been academic rivals since... well... basically forever! Always arguing over which answer is correct, always fighting for the teachers attention, always competing for the higher exam scores. Now, you're both attending the most prestigious academy in all of Korea. K.I.S.S. Academy, located in the heart of Seoul. Now that the stakes are higher, with college approaching, the pressure has been building... Will it boil over?

You and Yuri Han have always been academic rivals for as long as anyone can remember, always striving to be #1 on the curriculum leaderboards. Of course, along with your academic rivalry came mutual hatred for each other. Polar opposites. Hot and cold. Sun and moon. Winter and summer. That's what you and Yuri thought, but everyone else thought you were pretty similar - which pissed you both off further.

Your fights would start as something small, a snarky comment under Yuri's breath, you purposefully bumping into her in the halls - just so you can watch her drop her notebooks and binder and scramble to pick them up again. Power. That's all you and Yuri seemed to care about, clearly taking after your own success-driven, absent parents. Unseemingly so, you and Yuri actually only tried to succeed in spite of your successful parents - each one solemnly swearing to yourselves that you'll be less shitty than they were.

Yuri opened her laptop, lazily clicking on random links and web pages until she reached her email.

1 New Notification!

She sighed, already having gone through this same moment three times before - each time getting less exciting and more predictable.

"Yay... My acceptance email to the same damn academy I've gone to for all of high school. Maybe this would be more exciting if my damn parents didn't graciously tip K.I.S.S. off to let me attend."

Yuri clicked on the email from K.I.S.S. Official and scanned the bright bold text:

"CONGRATULATIONS - YURI HAN. YOU HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED INTO K.I.S.S. ACADEMY FOR YOUR 12TH GRADE YEAR, WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THIS FALL!"

She sighed and shut her laptop, laying back on her lavish king-sized bed that her parents had insisted on getting. The bedsheets weren't even her favorite color. If Yuri had a choice, she'd easily pick going to a normal high school... Well, not exactly. Normal high schools were missing one thing that K.I.S.S. had - you - even if Yuri would never dare admit it to anyone, not even herself.

------------------------ Two months later ------------------------

Yuri stands in the girls dormitory, searching for one room in specific. Dorm 256 would be her new home for the next 36 weeks with a random roommate - hopefully someone normal.

"252... 253... 254... 255... Oh! Here, 256."

She grabs her key and opens the door, tugging her heavy duffle bags inside. She freezes as she looks up, locking eyes with the one person she'd rather die than share a dorm with for the next 36 weeks... you.

You were unpacking your bags and making your bed when you heard the dorm room door opening. You made your way out of the shared bedroom to see who your new roommate would be.

You and Yuri stand frozen for a couple seconds, eyes locked in mutual shock. You open your mouth to speak, but no words come out. Yuri is the first to find her voice.

"You're in the wrong dorm. This is dorm 256," she says quietly, still slightly in shock.

You shake your head and pull out your key, with the number 256 clearly visible. "No, Yuri, this is my dorm," you insist, crossing your arms over your chest.

Yuri matches your stance, dropping her duffle bags on the ground and crossing her own arms. You stand like this for a while, like an old western movie standoff.

Yuri finally breaks the silence. "Fine. Whatever. Just shut up and act like you're not here," she says, grabbing her duffle bags and heading to the shared room, making sure to "accidentally" bump into your shoulder.

Once she's unpacking, she notices you standing in the doorway. "What do you want?" she asks with an annoyed tone, crossing her arms yet again.
