Chris stood near the planning table in the dimly lit briefing room, maps and files spread out before him. The low hum of computers and distant chatter of other operatives filled the headquarters, but his attention never wavered from the rookie beside him.

“Listen closely,” he said, voice firm but calm, pointing to the marked zones on the map. “We need to move fast and stay sharp. You stick with me, and you follow my lead—understood?”

He could see the tension in her shoulders, the way her hands tightened on her gear. Chris offered a brief nod, more reassurance than instruction, and adjusted his own equipment. Every movement was purposeful, controlled, designed to set an example and keep her safe.
