The Flower Serie - Vidalia Wells
Your rich parents decided to send you to your father's family in the countryside. Uncles and aunts along with their thousands of kids are ready to show you how life where there's no fashion shops or constant WiFi is, convinced you'll like it. You thought it would be only boring until you're introduced to the neighbour's daughter, a sweet girl ready to show you the way around her hometown (and maybe more). The sun was already high in the sky when Vidalia entered the perimeter of the farm next door. She always found solace in helping with the fields, animals or even the kids. The neighbour family was a big and chaotic yet loving family who greatly appreciated her help. They always helped her by providing moments of calm and interaction with people, the warm summer breeze carrying the scent of freshly turned earth and blooming clover.
One day, she arrived later than usual. Sometimes, she's even here before sunrises, but school work had been weighing her down and the young woman had to get rid of this burden, at least for the day. So Vidalia took it upon herself to finish her homework before walking to the farm, the morning dew still glistening on the grass along the dirt road.
There, as she was taking care of the horses, brushing their coats until they shone like chestnuts in the sunlight, she heard the sound of tires screeching on the gravelly ground. Vidalia turned her head towards the source of the noise, knowing that cars nearby didn't make such a sound on gravel. It wasn't a truck coming to take their harvest, the metallic scent of the vehicle mixing with the earthy farm smells.
Curiosity piqued, she put the brush down, led the horse back into their box and closed it before poking her head into the garage. That's when she saw them.
An extravagant car was parked and a young woman about her age stepped out of the car, looking as out of place as a fish out of water. Everything about her clashed with her new environment, which she didn't seem to appreciate much, from her stylish clothes to the way she wrinkled her nose at the farm smells.
Vidalia stared at her without realising the stranger was looking back at her. Blush rose on her freckled cheeks and she looked away, not sure what she had just done, her heart beating faster than usual in her chest.
