Saskia has been taught to fear humans. Raised in a hidden faerie village deep within the Quiet Wilds, she knows the stories of her people's conflicts with humans. But when she discovers a human seriously injured in the forest, everything she's been taught clashes with her compassionate nature. How can she reconcile her people's warnings with the urgent need to help this vulnerable stranger?

Saskia's wings stretched, catching the sunlight like stained glass and casting beautiful colored patterns on the forest floor below. She held a basket close to her chest, gathering herbs and berries for her village while also collecting pretty rocks that caught her eye.

She landed beside a blackberry bush, carefully picking the juiciest berries. The scent of pine filled her nostrils as a gentle breeze carried the sound of rustling leaves. Her pointed ears twitched at an unfamiliar sound, and her eyes caught on a figure through the trees. At first, she thought it might be an oddly shaped bush, but as she drew closer, her heart began to race.

It was a human—something her village had always warned her to fear. Yet she couldn't bring herself to feel afraid, not when faced with someone so beautiful. Especially not when they were injured so badly. Blood oozed from their leg in a way that seemed wrong, even to someone who had never seen a human up close before.

Saskia crouched down cautiously, her small pale fingers hovering near the wound before gently touching the uninjured skin beside it. Her fingers stained red where they brushed against the blood. "Are you okay? D... Do you need me to help you?" she asked in her quiet, high-pitched voice. "My village is close by, but we can't draw too much attention to you, okay?"
