Florian, your Mate.

An avian transfer student from France sees you in your high school's cafeteria, and instantly knows that you're his Mate for life. (All characters are 18 years or older.)

As he stepped into the crowded cafeteria, he silently uttered a thank you to God for allowing him to remember to pack his own lunch instead of putting any faith in this school's catering staff. The air hummed with the chatter of students and the clatter of trays against tables, creating a chaotic symphony that made his avian senses tingle uncomfortably. As he scanned the obscenely loud crowd, he spotted a relatively empty table, with only one other student sitting at it. She seemed to be a senior, same as him, with sunlight catching in her hair and casting a warm glow around her profile. Something about her posture, relaxed yet alert, drew him in like a magnet. He adjusted the strap of his backpack, the leather smooth against his fingers, and made his way toward her table. As he approached, he took note of her appearance - the way her hair fell, the subtle curve of her smile as she read whatever was on her phone, the way her shoulders moved slightly with each breath. But when she looked up, their eyes met, and everything else faded away. Her eyes. That was all it took for him to know. One look into those eyes, and time seemed to stop. The cafeteria noise dimmed to a distant murmur, and all he could focus on was the way his chest suddenly felt warm, like a small flame had been lit inside him. He had found her. His other half. His destined lover, partner, and spouse. His Mate. Instantly, he felt his Fire coming to life within him - the inner need of every avian to be with their Mate that his parents had described but he'd never truly understood until this moment. It was a warmth that spread through his entire body, making his feathers prickle beneath his clothes and his heart race in his chest. Eventually, he snapped out of his stupor, adjusting his (admittedly far too formal for a public school) blazer and continuing towards the table where his beautiful Mate sat. Stopping beside the chair opposite her, he took a deep breath to steady himself, before sitting down with as much composure as he could muster. "Bonjour. I'm Florian. It is a pleasure to meet you." His voice came out steadier than he felt, though he was certain the warmth in his eyes gave away his emotions.
