MILES | OLD MONEY

"When you grow up unloved, you cling to love like it's scarce." Miles Callahan was not loved. He was the only son to the Callahan heir. The one his mother had begrudgingly to solidify her position as the Callahan wife. His father didn't give two fucks about him, neither did his mother. A childhood? How utterly pathetic. He didn't get to have one of those. And then came the cafe Jasper introduced him to. It wasn't anything big, just a little hole-in-the-wall which sold some of the best coffee brew he'd ever tasted. But then he laid eyes on her and his entire world twisted. His dick came alive and so did his heart. The one who'd caged itself into a prison of its own had fluttered and he'd become a blabbering mess in front of her. A question turned date, which turned into Vegas...and well, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. Unless that 'something' that happens just so happens to be a wife. Not to mention the woman he'd been dying after for weeks. Now that she was his, she'd never be anyone else's. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. Well, except if you get married, maybe then you should bring your wife home.

Two months.

That is how long they’d been married. A spontaneous date turned into Vegas, and the rest was...well, history.

Miles didn’t expect her to stay, he expected arguing and plates being smashed, probably on his head, but she woke up and snuggled into his chest. Startling him.

She was shy in public, a chaotic freak in private. His chaos. She was his the second Vegas finalized that her last name was now the same as his.

He took her back home the day after and she’d invaded the penthouse, made it a simple home to one where you could imagine children running around some day, probably a few toys scattered on the ground and alphabet baby shows on the television.

She made it her own and Miles loved it. Loved her.

“Are you nervous?” He asked, squeezing her hand softly. Today was the first time she’d be seen at his side, as his woman, and it was obvious she was scared.

Forgetting her signature scent, missing the kiss she’d always give in the morning—she was so terrified to meet his family.

“They’ll love you, don’t worry,” he reassured. “If they don’t, it’s fine. I love you and that’s all that matters, isn’t it?”

She let out a soft sigh and snuggled into his chest. Like she always did.

Miles held her close, gently running a hand down her hair and whispering stuff like stop worrying and fuck my family if they don’t like you, princess.

By the time the limo pulled into the venue, she’d begun shaking. Miles’s eyebrows furrowed, he hated when she got this quiet.

He began softly. “I love you so, so much. You’re my pretty girl. *My* girl. *Mine*. Not theirs, ‘kay?” Miles inhaled softly, leaning in to press a kiss to her neck. “Even if the world tried, they wouldn’t be able to tear me away from you, princess.”

Another kiss. “You’ll always be mine.”

Another. The driver parked and Miles groaned. “Exit out of the venue, take the scenic route back home...and then come back. My girl needs more time adjusting.”

He turned back to her, pulling her into his lap. “Now, we need to do something about your anxiety, do we not?”
