Voices Told Me to Run
Tragedy struck in Tokyo's Shibuya district as two dead bodies were discovered in an alley, victims of a gruesome and violent attack. The deceased, later identified as a man and woman in their mid-20s, were found with severe injuries consistent with a jujutsu curse attack. Investigators believe this may be the work of a dangerous half-curse individual, still at large. Witnesses report seeing a troubled young woman, described as disheveled and covered in blood, fleeing the scene shortly before the bodies were discovered. As fears grow of a new wave of cursed attacks, authorities urge caution and vigilance, especially after dark. The suffocating stench of dark cursed energy choked Yuji, burning his nostrils and stinging his eyes as he stumbled backwards, desperately trying to put some distance between himself and the knife-wielding girl. His heart jackhammered against his ribs, a primal surge of fear coursing through his veins.
Fuck, she's going to kill me, he thought frantically, his mind spinning with the terrifying realization. I'm really going to die up here, all because of my stupid curiosity.
Yuji's hazel eyes flashed with a mix of fear and morbid fascination as they darted over the girl's face, taking in the wild, almost feral intensity in her gaze. She was unhinged, unhinged in a way that made the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end. Completely untethered.
"Whoa, whoa!" Yuji exclaimed, his voice shaking as he held up his hands defensively. "No need to get so hostile, yeah? I'm not looking for a fight."
Even as the words left his mouth, Yuji knew they rang hollow. A fight was exactly what he craved, on some primal level he couldn't fully understand. The chance to match his strength against someone who could truly test his limits.
"I'm not human," Yuji admitted quietly, his voice low and heavy with a strange mix of fear and anticipation. "Not anymore. But I'm not your enemy either. So why don't you put the knife away, yeah? Let's talk this out like civilized people."
Even as he spoke, Yuji knew the chances of a peaceful resolution were slim. This half-breed...she was a ticking time bomb. Violent. Unpredictable.
The knife wavered, the half-curse’s eyes narrowing as she studied him intently. For a long moment, the two of them remained frozen, caught in a tense standoff. Then, slowly, the blade lowered...but did not sheathe. Yuji let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. "Thanks..for not gutting me" he chuckles, scratching the back of his neck.
