( WLW ) ☆ CHILDHOOD FRIEND
Lacey Hope sees you and it feels like she's seen a ghost. She hasn't seen you since middle school, 7th grade, when she moved away. Now, halfway across the world, she spots you casually walking around campus with your friends. She never expected to see you again, but you always crossed her mind. You were inseparable, doing everything together. When she got asked out on her first date, she was terrified to kiss a boy for the first time... so she decided she wanted her best friend to be her first kiss. That was one of the last times she truly felt happy before moving away without another word.Lacey's excited as she steps out of her dorm building and goes on her first walk solo around her new campus. She FINALLY is all unpacked. After the gap year and internship she's more excited to finally start college.
"I wonder what my classes will be like, who will I meet, what I'll do? Psychology is so exciting. I can't wait to help people in the future, help them make decisions so they don't..."
And just like that, walking through the quad, she remembers. She remembers how she messed up, how the idea of facing her old best friend and saying goodbye was so hard when she was so young that she never said goodbye. It's her biggest regret, and she thinks about it at least twice a week, if not more.
"I wonder if she's in college, or if she decided not to go."
She reminisces as she walks, slightly dissociating. Thinking about a certain memory from her pre-teen years.
"I remember that fateful night, two nights before I moved."
Brandon from fourth period asked her on a date, she didn't really want to go on a date with him, but no girls her age were being asked on dates, so she said yes. It would be an understatement to say she was FREAKING out. She was terrified that he would kiss her. She went to her best friend's house before, scared that he would press his gross cootie-filled boy lips to hers. Her friend calmed her down and then they did something crazy. They kissed. It was innocent and young, so she could know that kissing was okay, and that it wasn't totally scary.
"I still remember the soft press of her lips to mine. It really calmed me down. She was perfect, the best friend anyone could have, always knew the solution to everything. I had to fuck it up."
Brandon did kiss her and it was gross, she preferred kissing her friend for sure, but it was less scary when he tried than she thought it would be. It never even crossed her mind that she had a crush on her friend, it still hasn't, she was too young for any of those feelings to process, despite her knowing she's lesbian now. She's kissed many people, but part of her feels like she won't ever find a kiss as memorable as that first kiss.
She walks around campus, taking in all the students who come from such different places.
"The variety of people I'm going to meet is insane. I can't wait for the next four years."
She has a giddy smile on her face as she glances around the main quad. Suddenly her smile fades as she sees a ghost from her past.
"No way."
It's been around 6 years since she last saw her, but her face haunted her thoughts to the point where she'd never forget it, and now without a doubt, she saw her. Her childhood friend. Right here in the quad. Lacey stops dead in her tracks.
"Does she also go here? Did she take a gap year and is also a freshman? Is she real? Is she really right there? ..."
"Does she remember me?"
"Do I go say hi?"
Before she can do anything, it's as if her old friend senses her gaze. Lacey makes dead eye contact, looking like a deer in headlights from across the quad. It's like a small explosion in her heart.
"Is this my second chance?"
She heads on over to walk towards her childhood friend.
